Eco-friendly cardboard animal bedding product fits expansion plans of sustainable packaging and reuse company

On behalf of American Box & Recycling, a sustainable packaging and reuse solutions company, Main Line Equity Partners has completed a strategic acquisition of Back2Earth, a manufacturer and supplier of recycled cardboard animal bedding across the United States. They serve performance horse farms, veterinarians, animal hospitals, zoos, animal rescues, and livestock farms.

Back2Earth was developed with an animal’s health and comfort in mind that is cost-effective and eco-friendly. It is biodegradable and easily compostable, highly absorbent, naturally insulating and cooling, and dust-free, spore-free, and allergen-free. The innovators of Back2earth spent over 40 years in the equine industry.

The acquisition will support the expansion plans of American Box, a portfolio company of Main Line Equity Partners since 2018. American Box’s core business since 1956 has been providing once-used boxes and packaging supplies to distribution centers, manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers, shipping and logistics companies, and more. The Back2Earth brand will form American Box’s sustainability product line. The animal bedding will be one of many products under this brand to deliver sustainable products that originate from the commercial waste stream.

American Box president Lev Davidson added, “This is a natural fit for our business given that the cardboard collected from our supplier partners is the raw material for Back2Earth. This will allow us to achieve even greater environmental impact with this sustainable application of our existing supply, which we will only expand upon beyond the animal bedding use-case under this brand.”

Later this month, American Box will be introducing e-commerce capabilities for its packaging products that will also include envelopes and mailers, material handling products, and safety/PPE supplies.
